Dear Expectant Mother,

Thank you for taking the time to read our profile and learn more about our family. We can only imagine the difficult feelings you are working through as you consider making an adoption plan. We are excited about the prospect of growing our family and hope this profile gives you a glimpse of who we are.

About Us

We grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis, MN. Stephen’s family started attending the same church that Patty’s family attended in 7th grade. It is said that Patty liked Stephen since the day she met him. It is also true that it took Stephen until graduating from high school to see that she was not only an amazing friend, but that she could be the love of his life.

We started dating and went off to college in different states (Stephen in Redding, CA and Patty in Chicago, IL). After four long years, we graduated and got married! While long and difficult, it was good for us. We proved our commitment to each other, learned how to communicate, and how to resolve conflicts. Today, we have been married for 15 years and have a daughter named Ruth. Adoption has been in our plan since the beginning, and we feel that now is the right time for us to begin our journey.

We want you to know…

We are supportive of open adoptions. If this is something that you want, we are committed to keeping an open line of communication with you, sharing photos, providing updates, and arranging future visits. While our vision for open adoption is flexible, a child’s background and family /culture is part of who they are. We will seek to nurture this connection and help them embrace their whole identity.

About Patty

Patty is the ICU nurse you want to have, the vacation planner you need, and the best mom you could hope for. Nursing is a calling to her. This is clear in how she cares for patients and advocates for their needs. She enjoys planning our vacations almost as much as going on them. When we arrive at our destination, she already has a list of restaurants to try, activities to do, and places to see.

Friends and family also benefit from her loving care and planning skills. When family comes to visit there is often an elaborate tea party with fine china, homemade cucumber sandwiches, and treats she baked. All are welcome at the table. Pinkies up!

Patty is a thoughtful and compassionate mom. She takes Ruth to all her activities, puts anti-itch cream on her bug bites, and helps her with homework after school. In the words of Ruth, “My mom is loving, caring, and very good to me.  She reads me books. I like when we cook together and when we listen to audiobooks.” We have room in our hearts and home to love another little one and we will be there to dust them off when they fall down.

About Stephen

Stephen has a background working with families in need and currently works for a major healthcare company. For his job, he works in learning & development and is a problem solver. His office is in our basement, and he comes up throughout the day to check-in. Learning and staying active are a priority so in his free time he enjoys camping, hiking, and going to museums with his family. While around the house, he spends time with Ruth going on bike rides or doing minor fixes with his little helper. He teaches Sunday school and leads Financial Peace University (a practical financial class) at our church.

In the words of Ruth, “He is playful, fun, and loving. Dad cares for me, reads me books, and snuggles with me.  He lets me play.” Especially with children, he lets his silly side out and is tenderhearted.

About Ruth

Ruth is a loving and snuggly 7-year-old.  As a confident extrovert she loves dancing, swimming, doing gymnastics, and learning about space.  She loves school and being with her friends. At home she can be found baking with Mom, making an elaborate craft, or playing with dolls/animals. If you ask her a question, she may paw at you and meow pretending to be a cat. Ruth has an active imagination! She also talks about helping to care for a new sibling, or two if possible…

Our goal for Ruth, and any other sibling, is to be empathetic, kind, and to treat others with respect. We want them to find their passions, imagine what they want to be, and give them the tools to achieve their goals.

Our Family

Patty has two sisters, two brothers, and five nieces. Stephen has one sister, two brothers, and four nieces and nephews. Both sets of our parents are still married. Most of our extended family lives in Minnesota, so when we visit its a week of non-stop activities such as hiking, picnicking at the park, and going to the Minnesota Zoo in between family dinners and celebrations.

On a recent trip, we went to a splash pad with both of our families. The adults talked as they enjoyed the sun and watched the nieces and nephews play together. We are grateful that our families live near each other, know each other, and get along. We have shared our desire to adopt, and they are thrilled about welcoming another child into the family. There will be a lot of cousins for your child to play with!

Community

We love our northwest side Chicago neighborhood. Our street held a block party this summer with a bouncy house and water slide. Kids laughed, ran through bubbles, and played in the water. In our community, many ages and ethnicities are represented. We value the diversity. Our home has room for family to visit, a play set in the back, and space to entertain outside.

The library and school are within walking distance along with multiple parks. We are Christians and have been members of a non-denominational Christian church for the past 15 years. This community is part of our extended family.
