We met in our early-20s, in the early days of online dating, and we’ve been together for over 16 years. Our “how we met” story is the typical “opposites attract” cliché – Maurice was very creative and a pop-culture whiz, and Matt was more into business and technology. It was what drew us together, and what has kept our relationship strong ever since. After 16 years, we have become each other’s best friends. We spend our free time together discovering new tv shows, playing with our dogs, and laughing at each other’s dumb jokes.
In the years we’ve been together, we have lived in both Chicago and the suburbs, but about four years ago we found the house we’d call home. It’s a single-family home in the Irving Park neighborhood of Chicago. It’s on a quiet tree-lined street with many other single-family homes. Irving Park is a diverse community with restaurants, parks, and stores all within walking distance. We’re really excited and looking forward to raising our family here.
We have two amazing dogs – Heidi and Abbie. We both grew up with Shelties and our love for them led us to adopting our first dog, Heidi, 13 years ago, and we adopted Abbie a few years later. Both of our girls are a big part of our family and spend a lot of time with us.

There is definitely only one Maurice, and he’s an amazing husband (…usually). He’s both creative and smart, and he’s the most caring person I know. But what I really fell in love with was his smile and sense of humor. He is someone that I can spend hours with making jokes and poking fun at each other. He is someone I know I can trust, and I know that he will always be there for me.
Maurice loves being around kids and his family, and I love how much of a doting uncle he is. If that’s any sign of how he is with kids, I can only imagine how amazing of a dad he will be. And I definitely know he will be the most patient dad…after all, he’s put up with me for 16 years.

Matt is going to make an incredible dad. He has been there for the birth of our nieces and nephews and has watched them grow. I see how he loves them as much as I do, and I can see that he wants that for us. There is nothing more I would like to see than him become a dad.

Family is extremely important to us. It’s what has kept us in Chicago. Both of our families are currently within driving distance, and we believe it’s important to stay close.
We both come from large extended families. We celebrate a lot of family holidays together like Thanksgiving and Christmas, attend family cookouts, and spend weekends together. We especially love to spend time with our nieces (10 and 11) and nephews (6 and 8). They’re at the age where they still think their uncles are cool, and we have no interest in changing that anytime soon!

Maurice has a younger brother and sister, and he was raised in Chicago. His family lives nearby in the suburbs where he spends a lot of Saturdays catching up with his mom, brother, sister, nieces, and nephews.
Both of our families are beyond excited to have another family member, and Matt’s parents are thrilled to have their first grandchild.

We love to travel and explore as many new parts of the world as we can. We’ve had the opportunity to travel to parts of Central America, Latin America, and Europe, and we love to explore new cities in the U.S. We’re thrilled to add a tiny travel companion to our family and continue to explore new foods and learn about other cultures.
