Jimmy and Mary

Dear Expectant Parent,

Thank you for viewing our profile! While we are filled with excitement and anticipation of growing our family, we realize you have an enormous weight of making a life changing decision for you and your baby. We would like to share a bit about our home and family, and the life that we will provide for a child. If you choose us as the adoptive family for your baby, we promise to meet you where you are in your desires for involvement in the life of your child – however that may look. Our hope is for your child to know who you are, and to understand how the choices made for them came from a place of deep love.

Our Story

We are Jimmy and Mary. We met in 2014 at a mutual friend’s brunch gathering, during Mary’s first year of teaching and Jimmy’s first year of graduate school. One of our first dates was making pasta together – which has grown into a love of cooking and trying new foods together! In our free time, you may find us jogging through Chicago’s many neighborhoods, hosting board game nights with friends, or (as is most often the case) sitting at home with our dogs and making goofy inside jokes. And though we love our hometown of Chicago, we also love exploring new cities together! One of our favorite places to travel to is Michigan in the Summer – where Jimmy can always find a fun spot to hike or camp, and Mary can eat plenty of her favorite treat – Superman Ice Cream.

We absolutely love the life we’ve built together these past eight years, which has been filled with joy, love, and laughter. When either of us has a stress or obstacle in our lives, we know we can turn to the other for the support and partnership we need to get through a difficult time. Each and every day we remind each other of how lucky we are to have found authentic love and connection in one another and know that growing our family will only add to the happiness and warmth in our home.

We have always planned to grow our family through adoption and couldn’t be more excited to be starting the process. We began discussing adoption early in dating, and are confident this is the right path for us in becoming parents. We’ve been blessed with overwhelming support and joy from family and friends, which has made us even more confident in our decision.

Meet Mary (31)

I was raised in St. Louis, MO and have a very large extended family who are now spread throughout the Midwest. Family was an important part of my upbringing – I have very few memories of times I wasn’t surrounded by siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Some of my most cherished memories are of large family trips to Florida and Michigan – anywhere with a beach! Though my family is more spread out now than we used to be, we still love to all gather every year for holidays, birthdays, and any excuse we can find to get together.

I describe myself as creative, energetic, caring, and someone who loves exploring my hobbies – baking, running, singing, and playing piano!

My passion has always been working with children. For the past ten years, I have taught Preschool and Kindergarten in Chicago. This photo shows me trying out some new puppets in my classroom. I absolutely love working with young children – seeing them grow and learn is such a joy. I look forward to the day I can spend time with my own child, as the opportunity to be a mother is one I’ve always hoped for.

Meet Jimmy (31)

I grew up in Toledo, OH and have a very small family who mostly still live in Ohio. Though my family was small, we were incredibly close through my childhood. I was lucky enough to have a grandma who could come and stay with me, my parents, and sister, every winter. One of my favorite memories growing up was playing cards with my grandma while my dad made everyone dinner.

I’ve spent my professional career working in the field of affordable housing. As a mission-oriented person, I really love working for a company that works hard to improve the homes and lives of people across the country. My job has allowed me to serve others by helping families access stable, safe, and affordable homes.

I am grateful that my job gives me the flexibility to work from home (or anywhere) and am excited to share that time with our child. In my spare time I love cooking, making ice cream, running, growing veggies in our yard, and playing with our two perfect pups.

Our Home and Neighborhood

We have been together for nine years, three of those married. We own a house in the Portage Park neighborhood of Chicago – a diverse neighborhood full of families. We live with our two wonderful dogs: Arya, a 4-year-old Husky, and Annie, a 2-year-old Australian Shepherd. Our dogs are incredibly goofy, and though they often chase one another around the yard, most of the time they are found snuggling on the couch. Annie and Arya love playing with our friends and their children, and are always up for an adventure. This picture shows us on a hike with Annie and Arya last Spring.

Our Support System

We are so grateful to have a wonderful support system of family, friends, and neighbors – all of whom are as excited as we are for us to begin our adoption journey. Several of our close friends already have children or are beginning to build their families – some of whom are also doing so through adoption. It brings us joy to know that our child will grow up in such a supportive and loving environment – with so many strong adults to lean on, and friends and cousins to grow up around. We promise that we will love, support, and cherish your child. We cannot wait to help them grow into a confident, independent, and creative individual.

We are excited to have a chance to possibly get to know you and have you become a very important part of how we become a family. Thank you for taking time to get to know us.
