Anna and Jason

Dear Expectant Mother,

We are Jason and Anna, and we appreciate this opportunity to tell you a little bit about ourselves. One thing that we have learned is that every adoption story is unique, but whatever circumstances have led you to read this letter, we hope that you find peace in whatever decision you make.

Our Story

We met through mutual friends while Anna was teaching fifth grade and Jason was a Merchant Marine. This led to our early “dates” being emails, phone conversations, and occasionally Skype calls. We were able to get to know each other very well during this time, and once Jason completed his rotation, we began dating in earnest and have been together ever since. We were married in March of 2013, surrounded by our family and closest friends.

There have been quite a few changes in the ten years that we have been married. Anna is now an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, and Jason works with shipyards and stevedoring companies to improve their worker safety programs. In 2019 we moved downtown near many local parks, bike trails, businesses, and several development projects. It is an exciting and diverse place to live, and we can’t wait to continue to explore and share our experiences with our growing family.

Staying active is very important to us, and we do that in a variety of ways. We both enjoy walking through our neighborhood or riding our bikes on the Fort Wayne Trail Network. We also belong to a local gym where we not only work out but have made quite a few close friends!

When we decided to grow our family, we tried for several years to get pregnant, and unfortunately, it was not in God’s plan for us. We have always intended to adopt and feel that now is the right time to move forward.

Meet Anna

Anna grew up in Fort Wayne, the youngest in a blended family with five older siblings. Anna knew as early as second grade that she wanted to be a teacher. She loved school and wanted to be just like her teachers when she grew up. After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Saint Francis where she received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a minor in special education.

Anna loves animals and we have several pets, both cats and dogs. Anna grew up with dogs, but now she would say she is more of a cat person! One of the reasons she looks forward to our neighborhood walks is to bring kitty treats to the neighborhood cats.

Anna loves to read, watch musicals (live or movies!), and listen to Taylor Swift. She did not travel very much when she was growing up but now enjoys exploring new places. Some of her favorites include Charleston, South Carolina, going to New York to see Broadway shows, and just about any beach town.

Jason describes Anna as loving, nurturing, and someone who children naturally gravitate towards. He feels these traits will make her an amazing mother.

Meet Jason

Jason grew up in Fort Wayne with an older sister and a younger brother. Jason fell in love with reading at a very young age, and reading has continued to be one of his primary pass-times into adulthood. Jason played baseball and roller hockey in local leagues and wrestled for his high school team. He was also very involved in his church youth group, serving on its leadership team and going on several service trips. Through his youth group, Jason became friends with several boys in the foster care system. That experience, along with having several adopted cousins, made him think that one day he would like to adopt when he had a family of his own.

Jason was encouraged by a high school teacher to apply for the federal service academies and received an appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Jason worked as a deck officer on cargo ships for eight years before transitioning to his current role as a loss control manager for a workman’s compensation insurance company.

Jason likes to try new things, and we have several hobbies or projects half-way completed around the house because of this! He cannot wait to encourage and support creativity in his child, and to create an environment where possibilities are endless.

Anna describes Jason as calm, practical, and a great role model, which she feels will make him an excellent father.

Our Community

We have several communities of people that we are very close with and who we draw a ton of support from. Our immediate families are nearby, and Jason’s sister is an easy walk away. We also have a very close-knit group of friends that we met through our local CrossFit gym. As more and more of our friends have begun growing their own families, we have started a rotating schedule of meeting up at each other’s houses, pack-n-plays in tow. Our church is one block from our house, and it is as diverse as our neighborhood.

Anna has been in elementary education for 15 years, and this is the source of one of our most unique communities: Anna’s former students! Every year, we enjoy going to choir recitals, sporting events, dance recitals, and other events that her former students are participating in. Some of the students and families have become very close friends, and we love seeing how her students continue to develop.

Our support network also includes a variety of family members and close friends who have either adopted or have been adopted. We have already taken advantage of their experience and advice and will continue to do so as we move forward.
