Elyse and Henry

Dear Expectant Mother,

We are Henry and Elyse. We’re a young couple (32 and 30) who value deep and meaningful relationships with family and friends, fellowship over food, and exploring the beautiful city of Chicago. Adoption has been an important part of our families, and we can’t wait to make it part of our own. We admire your strength and would be honored to meet you. We hope you can see the love that we share and how much your child would be loved!

About Us

We met in 2015 at a church event and were immediately drawn to each other’s love for Jesus, openness, passion for educational equity, and dancing skills! We started dating soon after, and a year and a half later said, “I do.” We’ve been married for four years and have absolutely loved how marriage has grown us as a couple and individually.

From the beginning of our marriage, before we found out we had fertility issues, we knew we wanted to adopt. Adoption has been a wonderful part of both our families, bringing many blessings. Elyse’s Aunt and Uncle were both adopted, and we have two beautiful adopted nephews.

Meet Elyse

Those who know me well would say I’m a nurturer. I love to invest in others, encourage them, and offer a listening ear. This is one large reason why I have worked in education for the past six years, I get to nurture each and every day! I have the privilege of teaching in the public schools in Chicago, and I absolutely love it. Being around kiddos and their bright spirits brings me such joy! When not in the classroom, I love to connect with friends and family over good food or neighborhood walks. I care deeply about those in my life and try to be intentional in communicating often with them and lifting them up in prayer.

Meet Henry

I am a passionate person. I am passionate about my relationship with the Lord. I love learning new things about Him, and discussing those things with Elyse and others! I am passionate about people. I value taking the time to invest in relationships with my wife, friends, and family. I really enjoy listening to what people value, and I try to support them in those things. I am passionate about my work. I recently transitioned from working in education to a data analyst role in business. I am passionate about food. Elyse and I use cooking as another way to encourage fellowship with others, because we love to cook and share food with friends and family in our home.

Things I love about Henry (by Elyse)

The moment I met Henry I was immediately attracted to his confidence and natural leadership. Henry is such a compassionate person who is driven to bring renewal to this world. He is a thoughtful, sincere man who empathizes so well with others. And it’s just a bonus that he is a great dancer and also has a silly side!

Things I love about Elyse (by Henry)

Elyse possesses a quiet confidence and has a calming presence. She has the personality of someone you can’t help but want to be around! Elyse is also authentic and does not feel the need to be anyone but herself. Elyse loves people very well and is so invested in her relationships. She really cares about the needs of others. And, Elyse is quite the dancer herself!

Our Families

I (Elyse) was born in Chicago and grew up in the suburbs. I’m the youngest in my family with two older brothers. I absolutely loved my childhood! I have fond memories of annual trips to Florida, popcorn movie nights on Sunday, soccer games with dad as coach, and many nights of laughter. All of my family lives within an hour and a half of us. Mom and dad are in the suburbs, my oldest brother, sister-in-law and five kiddos live in Milwaukee, and my older brother and sister-in-law live in Chicago with their three kiddos. Henry and I cherish the time spent with family and enjoy how close we live to everyone.

I (Henry) was born in Philadelphia, raised in Cleveland, and am a happy Chicago transplant! I have an older brother (Dan) and sister (Kate), and they are both married, have four kids, and live in Cleveland, Ohio along with my parents. My sister Kate has adopted two sons. Ezekiel is from Ethiopia, and A.J. was adopted from Columbus, Ohio. Our whole family loves to vacation in Stowe, Vermont. In fact, we have vacationed there every year for the past 30 years! Even though my family is in Ohio, Elyse and I get to see them for major holidays and the occasional weekend visit.

Our Home

We live in a neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago. It’s a cozy place with lots of parks and a family feel. We absolutely love living in the city! The access to different cultures, art, and delicious food at our fingertips is truly incredible!  Another amazing bonus, Elyse’s brother and sister-in-law live just 15 minutes away, it’s so fun to get together with their family! We also have many friends living in the city and nearby suburbs that we get to see often.

Our Faith

Our Christian faith is at the center of our lives. Through the ups and downs of life we find ourselves rooted in Jesus. We attend a wonderful church near to our home with a supportive network of people. The church is diverse in many ways.

We hope you can see the love we have for each other, our family and friends, and our city. We promise to bless your child with unconditional love, a vast support system, and an abundance of grace. We would love to have open communication and visits with you, but respect whatever decision you feel is best. Praying for you on this journey!
