Stephan

Dear Expectant Mother,

Thank you for viewing my profile. I can only imagine what you are experiencing as you begin thinking about the adoption process. I admire your courage and the selfless love that you have for your child. I hope to have the chance to meet you so we can learn more about each other.

About Me

My name is Stephan and I have wanted to be a mother for as long as I can remember. After much thought I decided to start my family as a single parent. After several fertility treatments I was able to experience the joy of pregnancy, but unfortunately, I miscarried. I am not physically able to carry a child, but this journey has taught me that you do not have to give birth to a child to be a parent.

I was born in Northwest Indiana, and my little sister and I were raised by a single mom in New Orleans. I graduated from Louisiana State University and have been a flight attendant for 14 years. My degree is in Public Relations and I use it every day to make sure my passengers have the most enjoyable flight!  There are many things I love about my job, but one of the perks is that I can travel for free. I have visited almost all 50 states and many cities in Europe, Mexico, and the Caribbean. My favorite location would be Havana, Cuba. The food, culture, and architecture are like New Orleans. It feels like home there, and the local people are friendly and welcoming. I cannot wait to have a little travel buddy to show the world to and explore new destinations with!

I am a big football fan, especially LSU and the Chicago Bears. When I’m not working on a weekend, I enjoy being at home relaxing and cheering on my teams. I also love to knit. I taught myself from watching a YouTube video and have gotten really good at it! Whenever friends or family are expecting a baby, I always make them a blanket knit with love. I taught my mom to knit a few years ago and she has already knit a blanket for her future grandchild. To say she is excited is an understatement!

I was raised in New Orleans and it was there that I developed a love of baking and cooking, especially Cajun-Creole food. My specialties are pound cake, red beans and rice, and gumbo. If any of that sounds good to you, I would love to make some for you to try!  A few other things that I enjoy are solving puzzles and reading. I especially love mysteries and sappy romance novels.

My Family

My mom, Shirley, is my best friend. Growing up she always made me feel comfortable talking to her about anything and everything. She is my sounding board and gives excellent advice. She showed me the type of mother that I want to be for my child. Now that she has retired from the banking industry, she enjoys spending time knitting, reading, shopping, and watching true crime TV shows. I feel blessed that I am able to share some of her hobbies with her.

My sister Jordan is a high school English teacher.  We communicate with each other all day. She truly is one of my best friends, and I am grateful for our bond. Jordan is funny, sarcastic, and very compassionate. She loves animals and fosters dogs in her free time.

My mother has 12 siblings, so we have a HUGE family with children of all ages at every get-together. We usually celebrate Thanksgiving with 40-50 family members. My mom and her sisters are all fantastic cooks, so we really pig out on the holidays. Every summer, all five generations of my family meet for our family reunion. There were almost 200 of us at the last one! Our next reunion will be in New Orleans and I am excited to be on the planning committee.

Growing up, my sister and I spent the summers with our grandparents in Indiana. It helped us form close bonds with our grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins that we did not get to see often. Even now I have more of a sibling bond with my cousins because of the sleepovers, road trips and family vacations that we took together. We are bonded by love and laughter; it is impossible to have a bad time around my family!

My Village

I own a four-bedroom home in Northwest Indiana. It is in a new subdivision in a diverse town with a school and park in walking distance, and children in the neighborhood. We are also a short drive from shopping, restaurants, and a candy factory.

My mother lives with me and will be providing childcare when I have to work. My cousin and aunt live two blocks away in the same subdivision. My cousin is also a flight attendant and we work together often. We call each other "sister cousin" and she has been my biggest supporter along my journey to motherhood.

My grandmother also lives close by. She just turned 90 years old and is still highly active in her church. One of my aunts is the director of our public library and another aunt is a social worker. I want to share this information about them so that you can see I have a well-rounded village to guide and support me. I may be single, but I will not be raising your child alone. The entire family is extremely excited about the opportunity to have a new child to love and spoil.

My mom, two aunts, and I are all members of the local chapter of our sorority. I am an officer in the chapter and we are active in the community volunteering, tutoring, and making charity donations. It is important to me to teach a child the value of giving back to the community and making a positive impact.

My Promise

My family has always been a supportive, safe, loving space. If you choose me, I vow to provide the same safe loving space to your child. I will do my absolute best to raise a compassionate, confident, loving child who is well rounded, well read, and well-traveled. I will honor our openness agreement; however, open you'd like to be. I understand choosing adoption is a difficult, selfless decision and I thank you for considering me and my family. I pray this journey is a peaceful one for you and that you have comfort in knowing you have made the best decision for you and your baby.
