Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read our letter and for taking a small peek into our lives. Our names are Matt and Jay and we are honored to be considered as parents for your child. While we can’t think of any words that seem to justify any person or couple being worthy of the gift you are giving, we’ll do our very best. What we can promise you is that the child we are blessed to bring into our home will be surrounded with love, laughter, and so much adventure!
We are a young, (27 and 28) fun-loving couple in our 4th year of marriage. We have both wanted families our entire lives and we are very excited to be going through the adoption process to begin ours. We met and got married in Indianapolis, Indiana. Both of our parents have been married for over 30 years and have truly set an example of what a long lasting marriage looks like.
Shortly after marrying, we bought a beautiful 3 bedroom home in a diverse and quiet neighborhood on the city’s northwest side. Located in one of Indianapolis’s best school districts, we are minutes away from the elementary school our children will attend. Recently, we installed a playground in our backyard that we can’t wait to enjoy with our own children. Until then, we love spending time with our nieces, nephew and god daughter!
Family and friends play a huge role in our lives. We have an incredible support network and are so excited to bring a child up in the same loving environment that we were both lucky to experience. Family get-togethers are plentiful and full of games and laughter!
Meet our Families
Matt is the middle of five children, the oldest of which is married and has one child, Eliza. When Eliza is asked the question “Do you want a cousin?!” she giggles with excitement. The rest of his family is also excited to welcome another child into their lives...and yes, they giggle too.
Jay’s side of the family consists of her and her older brother. He is married with two children, Emma and JB. Her parents often host the families over for pool parties and cookouts. They keep a family tree full of pictures in their living room and they are anxiously waiting for the day they get to add a new photo to the wall.
When we aren’t spending time with our family and friends, we love to hike, ride our tandem bike, and run. We are an active couple and getting outside and enjoying nature is very important to us. We live 10 minutes from the city’s largest park and we take full advantage of its trails and community events. This past year we finished our first half-marathon. We are committed to raising a healthy and active family!
To understand us as a couple, it is also essential to understand our love for travel. In our 7 years together we have visited places all over the world. Each year we try to take at least two trips. We recently returned from a week in Washington, D.C. where we explored the monuments and museums! We believe that travel allows a person to expand and grow, both in their hearts and minds, and we can’t wait to share that passion as a family.
Jay works for a local youth serving non-profit that specializes in peace education and conflict resolution. Her work has allowed her to build very close relationships with many of the city’s schools and has given her a deep understanding of the Indianapolis education system and what it has to offer.
Matt says, “Jay is such an inspirational person. She has a way of making people feel loved and appreciated. I am beyond spoiled by her amazing cooking skills and her spontaneous nature to always try something new, especially when it comes to food or travel. She has an infectious personality and an even more infectious laugh that can easily put a smile on anyone’s face. Through the many ways I have witnessed Jay work with children, I know that she will be nothing short of amazing, a one-of-a-kind SUPER-MOM, and the perfect role model for our children.”
Matt works as an accountant at L.M. Henderson & Company, a local accounting firm. Always interested in numbers and excelling in math, Matt followed in his father’s footsteps and went to school to study accounting and finance.
Jay says, “Matt is the most compassionate person I have ever met. He often puts the needs and considerations of others before his own. He is funny and goofy and keeps me on my toes. He loves to have random dance parties and to make me laugh. He wants nothing more than to be a father and there is no doubt in my mind that he will be wonderful at it. He radiates love and I know he’ll be the best possible role model for our children. “
As we wrap up our thoughts, we want you to know that as parents we plan to raise our family grounded in hope, surrounded in love, and supported in equal parts of hard work and fun adventure. We will provide opportunities for travel, education, and a bright future. We have a large family and group of friends that are giddy with anticipation to be able to pour their love and support on our future family.
